Editorial policy

Last updated:

This page explains how I Need Help prepares and publishes guides about emotional support and helplines. The policy sets out what we check, where we look and how we handle corrections.

Topics come from the questions people ask

Every guide on this site answers a question about emotional support and helplines that people in the UK are searching for. We choose subjects based on what readers need to know when they are looking for help, whether that is how to reach a helpline, what to expect from a first call or how to support someone else. No topic is chosen for commercial reasons.

Research draws on recognised sources

Each guide is researched using public reference works, official sites and organisations recognised in the field of mental health and emotional support. Facts are checked against more than one source wherever possible. Where a guide cites specific services or organisations, those details are taken from their own official sites. Sources are listed at the end of each article as further reading.

Guides are written in plain language

We write in straightforward British English. Terms that may be unfamiliar are explained when they first appear. Guides give practical information without exaggeration, and they never promise results or outcomes that depend on individual circumstances. The aim is to help you understand your options clearly, especially at a moment when clarity matters.

The site is independent

I Need Help accepts no paid placement and sells nothing to the reader. No organisation pays to be featured in a guide, and no external party influences what we publish or how it is written. The editorial team decides every topic, every fact and every update independently.

Content is reviewed and corrected promptly

Guides are reviewed whenever something changes in the subject they cover, such as a helpline number or the services an organisation offers. If you spot an error, write to [email protected]. Corrections are made without delay, and the article is updated to reflect the change.

Suggest a topic

If there is a question about emotional support or helplines that you think should be covered, write to the same address. We read every message and consider each suggestion when planning new guides.
